Products Traceability

The Product Traceability Initiative (PTI) It is an effort of the fresh food industry, aimed at establishing traceability processes that allow quick and efficient monitoring and electronic tracking of products through members of the supply chain. The initiative was created in October 2008 por la Produce Marketing Association (PMA, organization founded in the United States and Canada), Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA, Canadian agency) y United Fresh Produce Association. (UFPA, US body).

The PTI Action Plan advocates the use of minimum standards to serve as a link between each member of the supply chain, within which the bar code is key to allowing the information is automatically captured via chain.

The aim of PTI is to create an action plan that identifies the major key facts, which are guidelines to follow, enabling electronic product tracking at any point in the chain, the time required to meet these milestones and a process to accountability. Further, Action Plan carefully considered to minimize the business impact using existing resources:

  • Technologies (not. Barcodes),
  • Information (not. Identification number, Lot numbers),
  • Standards (not. GS1 Standards),
  • Legislation (not. Bioterrorism Act), and
  • Systems (not. Internal Traceability Systems).
